The Peekaboo Kangaroo Times - Issue #1

Introducing ---- Kathy Kangaroo and Baby Peekaboo!

Kathy Kangaroo lives in Australia where she spends her days hopping through the grasslands with the other kangaroos. One day when she was hopping through the bush near her home, she heard strange sounds coming from the reflecting pond. She perked up her floppy ears to listen, but she didn't know what could make those sounds. Over to the pond she hopped, and what do you think she saw? It was a little baby in a basket, peeking out at her!

Well, Kathy had never seen a people baby before, but she knew what to do with a little one - she just popped him into her pouch and away she hopped. She called him Peekaboo (P.K. for short) because of the way he peeked out of her pouch to see what was going on in the world. Now P.K. is a very happy baby, all snug in the pouch and peeking out at the world going by - it's a great way to travel!

This morning when Kathy woke up she couldn't find Peekaboo. Today of all days, when they want to be ready for the first Peekaboo Kangaroo Times! She looked in all the corners of the burrow and called and called to him: "Peekaboo! Where are you?" She tried to think of all the places that Peekaboo liked to play. She looked in the hollow in the gum tree. But Peekaboo wasn't there, only a nest of sleepy squirrels looked back at Kathy.

Then Kathy looked all around the big rock formations. She knew that PK and the little 'Roos liked to play hide and seek among the big rocks. But PK was not there, only a couple of baby wallabies looked at Kathy and then went right back to sleep.

Kathy looked by the eucalyptus tree. She knew that P.K.'s friend, Kimmy Koala lived in the tree and that sometimes P.K. visited him early in the morning. But, no, P.K. was not there, either. Kimmy looked at Kathy and then just went back to munching on her breakfast leaves.

Where could that Peekaboo Baby be? Kathy thought and thought. At last, she had an idea. She hopped down the lane through the grassland to the reflecting pond beyond the big rock formations. And there he was! Peekaboo Kangaroo was getting ready for his big day. He had taken a bath in the pond and was looking at his reflection on the water. Now he's all ready to say "Hello" to you!

A Kangaroo Joke:  
Q: Why are kangaroo moms unhappy when it rains?
A: Because they don't like it when the kids have to play inside!
